Launched in March 2007 by a volunteer team of San Francisco artists, designers, and socially-minded PR specialists, buylesscrap.org has prompted international debate about the ethos of cause-marketing practices. Stating “Shopping is not a solution. Buy Less. Give More.” the site provides visitors a portal to give directly to charity. It also encourages mindfulness regarding consumption.
